| Day 1: Mill Valley, CA to Las Vegas, NV |

| The drive from San Francisco to Vegas is actually an easy
one. We've done it a few times. From the Bay Area, head to the Central
Valley, and follow it about 2/3 down the length of California. Hang a left
on CA 46, to 58 to I-15, and, before you know it, you're cruising in
from the hills to the valley, lit up from miles away.
As usual, the first major city you hit Nevada is Primm, home to huge outlet malls, casinos, and (luckily) gas stations. It never fails: we refuel just as we leave Highway 5, and by Primm, we are on fumes. You'd think we'd learn! Luckily, it's a 10 mile downhill ride into Primm, so we coast most of the way...

| We stopped and made our pilgrimage to the
Eddie Bauer Outlet, then on to downtown Vegas! Although we stayed at the
Hilton, which is just off the Strip, we cruised downtown first, looking at
the new Aladdin, as well as the other sites of Vegas. Saw the Mirage's
volcano erupt, and, of course, saw the fantastic Bellagio fountains.
Dinner at P.F. Chang's, then our attempt to make the casinos happy. Amazingly, we won! Only $40, but paid for dinner. Finally, at about 1:30 A.M., we retired to our vintage 1960's room, and collapsed, ready to hit the buffet in the morning, and head on to the next destination: Albuquerque, New Mexico! |
